Below are instructions for instant pot and stove top for jasmine white rice, short grain brown rice, and short grain white rice. Plus how to cook a jasmine rice + quinoa together in the Instant Pot for a higher fiber and protein option.

stovetop instructions for jasmine white rice:

Add the rice to a fine mesh strainer and rinse, using your hands to agitate the grains, until the water runs clear. This gets rid of the extra starch so your rice isn’t mushy. Add rice to a medium pot along with 1 ½ cups water over high heat. Once the water starts to simmer rapidly, reduce the heat to low and simmer gently, covered, for about 12-15 minutes, or until the water is evaporated and rice is cooked.

Add 2 cups rice + 2 cups water + ½ tsp kosher salt to a 6-qt Instant Pot. Set the vent to “sealing”, then pressure cook on high for 4 minutes. Let it naturally release for 10 minutes, then manually release the remaining pressure by moving the valve to “venting”.

instant pot instructions for short grain brown rice:

Add 2 cups rice + 2 ¼ cups water + ½ tsp kosher salt to a 6-qt Instant Pot. Set the vent to “sealing”, then pressure cook on high for 20 minutes. Let it naturally release for 10 minutes, then manually release the remaining pressure by moving the valve to “venting”.

stove top instructions for short grain brown rice:

In a large pot, add the brown rice and enough water to cover by 3-inches. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium to maintain a gentle boil for 30-35 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through, stirring occasionally. Drain thoroughly, then spread out in a bowl or plate to cool/let it steam off.

I used a combo of jasmine white rice and quinoa that I cooked together in the Instant Pot. 1 cup quinoa + 1 cups jasmine rice (rinsed) + 2 ½ cups water + ½ teaspoon salt on high pressure for 4 minutes, natural release for 10 minutes, then manually release.

Natalie! Now that I’ve cooked rice in an instant pot, I may never look back! Love the jasmine and quinoa blend. I have some long grain brown rice. It calls for 45 minutes of cooking time. Any suggestions for how to modify for the instant pot?

Hi Elizabeth! I just did some research and there are a lot of different suggestions out there but I would try this:
Add 2 cups long grain brown rice + 2 cups water. Pressure cook on high for 20 minutes and let it naturally release for 15 minutes.
Let me know if that works for you!
