Whether you’re Irish or not, it’s always fun to have a food tradition for every holiday and St. Paddy’s Day is no exception! For me, that means making Irish Soda Bread and smothering it in butter (I like to try a new recipe every year).
So here’s a very short list of 4 Irish-inspired recipes to make at home.
Sheet Pan Irish Breakfast
A sheet pan version of a classic (minus the black pudding and beans)! Serve with soda bread (below) if you have it.
Whole Grain Irish Soda Bread
Maybe the easiest bread to make! Typically, this classic Irish bread is made with just flour, buttermilk, baking soda, and salt. To make it a bit more nutrient-dense, I’m using a combination of all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, oats, and flaxseed. Instead of buttermilk (an ingredient I never have on hand), I combined yogurt and milk to provide that same acidity needed for the bread to rise.
Ham and Cheese Toasties
These open-faced toasts are a classic Irish snack and are so incredibly easy and delicious. Cheddar cheese and diced ham get mixed together with egg and dijon mustard and spread on top of crusty bread. Perfect way to use up the Whole Grain Irish Soda Bread or any crusty loaf!
Creamy Potato Cabbage Soup with Garlicky Sausage and Beans
If there are two vegetables I think of when it comes to Irish food, it’s cabbage and potatoes. So we’re bringing them together in a simple, creamy, comforting soup!
